Of Mice and Middle Years…

What about the title?

Discussion of the title is appropriate I suppose in my first entrance into the blogosphere.  I would love to tell you I researched over many days looking for that appropriate title to capture the essence of my teaching life…technology and grade 7.  Yes, everything electronic (EXCEPT PHOTOCOPIERS) and everything pre-teen/teen and a little hormonal (a little?).  No, as Rob can attest to, the inspiration came completely from the intelligent company and the help of a small number of innocent “cocktails”. The number and type shall remain confidential.  Remember Rob, what happens at SACE, stays at SACE.

I have been teaching middle years for 12 of the 16 years of my professional career and since that first day on Poundmaker First Nation, thrust into a lab of Mac Colour classics, I have attempted to wrestle with the issues of teaching and technology. In my opinion, I believe the same tainted philosophy about technology in education still exists today… it is the “saviour” of the education system.  I have now the privilege of being a first year Master’s student with the Educational Technology and Communications Department at the University of Saskatchewan, and hope to continue studies in this area of teaching and learning.

I look forward to discussion, rants, and whatever else may wander down the bandwidth as the blogging begins!
