Of Mice and Middle Years…

Wikis– a Teacher’s best Friend.

Yes, I have been off the radar for a few months... I must admit tending to more than one blog, plus managing a number of others, has been more than challenging.
Anyway, I promised to show my work thus far, so here it is.
When I was told that I was to teach a beginning Information Processing Course, I immediately was struck with the notion that his course HAD to be offered in a blended learning environment, technology and all of it's neat little tools had to be used for my purposes and hopefully student interest, communication was of the upmost and I DID NOT WANT anything to do with paper! (I lose everything)
Hence the wiki.
I have taught for almost 20 years now. How many times, my fellow educators, have we had students complain they didn't know what the assignment was, lost the handout, didn't understand what to do...etc.
Answer- go to the wiki-- look at the wiki..., it's on the wiki... there is your computer, check the wiki...
I like it- put the documents right on the wiki.... embed the videos-- record projects choices-- post links... and even collaborate together on a page (alright, haven't done that yet, but hey, give me time).
The course is almost done now and I have to admit it next semester my reliance will be greater and my job easier now that I am really understanding how it works.

Love the wiki--- whay wouldn't we all use it for our courses?
